How to Fix a Cracked Samsung Galaxy Screen

Probably the most common problem for anyone who owns a Samsung Galaxy phone is dropping it and having the glass crack. Normally, this type of problem would be unfixable, and rather than going through a very pricey mobile phone repair, it was better to get the whole phone replaced. Many people still go this route, but if you are willing to try to fix your phone yourself, there is a way that you can do so if you are very careful in what you are doing.

Cracked Glass vs. LCD Repair

If you have dropped your phone, and it has gotten a crack or cracks in the glass of the screen and the phone is still completely function, this will require just a glass repair, which is less expensive. If your phone has suffered damage and the whole screen is now black, you will have to repair the entire LCD screen, which is doable, but buying the parts and kit for this repair costs a lot more.

Replacing the Glass of Your Samsung Galaxy

Although you can buy the glass replacement for your phone and in all technicality replace it, this is a difficult process, and one that is also very delicate. This is because of the construction of the Samsung Galaxy. It has the digitizer, which is the part that senses your finger touches, and this is built directly into the LCD, which is the part of the phone that displaces the picture. Most other smartphones have the digitizer, LCD and glass screen as three separate parts, but in the Galaxy they are all fused together. Therefore, you have to find a way to separate the glass without damaging the rest of the phone.

The biggest problem here is the fact that you have to apply heat to the glass to melt the connection it has with the other parts of the phone. To do this, you have to find just the right temperature. If you overheat it at all, you will ruin the LCD as well, and then you will have a ruined phone. This is what makes this type of mobile repair very difficult and delicate. If you are going to attempt to do this, have an infrared thermometer is very advisable.

Hiring a Company If you are more comfortable with a professional handling the repair of your Galaxy, there are a number of companies that will do this for you, which you can find online or in store, that have mastered fixing this problem. These companies will already have all of the proper tools on hand and will likely have already done this repair several times. In this way, you can know that you have someone to repair your phone’s delicate glass. Even when you have someone else do this repair, it will be much cheaper than replacing your entire phone.

Plus, if you go with a company for your repairs, you will likely receive a warranty on the work that they did. This is perfect if you are concerned with something going wrong with the repair job after a while, since you will no longer have to worry. If you do the repair yourself, however, you will not have the benefit of a warranty, and you will also likely be voiding any warranty that is left on your phone when you do your own repair, so if you something goes wrong, you will having to replace your whole phone anyway.

You can do your own Samsung Galaxy screen repair if you do the research, gather the right tools and are very careful while doing so. However, some people may not be comfortable doing this and would rather hire an experienced company instead. No matter which route you choose to fix the glass on your phone, you can know that it is possible to do for a fair price and is much cheaper than having to replace your whole phone.
